See like an animal
The same scene, two ways of seeing it. Each animal trades something we have for something we don't - pick one and see what its world actually looks like.
DeerA 310° early-warning system
No red cone - a tiger's orange coat reads as dull green.
DogReads motion and smell where we read colour
A blue-and-yellow world, slightly soft.
CatOwns the dark
Six times our low-light sensitivity.
EagleSpots a rabbit from two miles away
Four to five times our resolution, and stronger colour.
BeeSees a colour we have no name for
Sees ultraviolet, but is blind to red.
Mantis shrimpThe most complex eyes on the planet
Up to sixteen colour channels, plus polarised light.
